IIST is an educational and professional development organization that has been founded to promote a disciplined approach to software testing and caution against ad hoc testing by non qualified individuals and groups.
As the IT industry becomes increasingly more competitive and specialized, it becomes crucial for management to be able to identify and differentiate individuals that are skilled in their respective fields.
The lack of education in the area of software testing and quality assurance has made it even harder for software organizations to qualify individuals for hiring and promotions.
In spite of the increasing demand for software test professionals, educational institutions have failed to address the need for a comprehensive program that offers experience-based education in software testing. It is conservatively estimated that one-third of these costs could be eliminated with improved testing that catches errors earlier in the software development process.

The Certified Software Test Professional (CSTP) certification with its three levels ensures that testing professionals learn how to perform their jobs using practical approaches in a disciplined and systematic manner.
CSTP certification ensures a balanced knowledge of Testing and QA since all certified professionals have been exposed to the 7 areas of the Bodies of Knowledge (BOK).
The 7 areas of the BOK are the areas identified as being critical to the field of software testing; as determined from an Advisory Board of leading industry experts and practitioners.
To demonstrate competence in these areas, candidates are required to attend a written exam for each course and pass with a level of performance no less than 80%. By achieving CSTP certification, testing professionals are arming themselves with the best methodologies and practical approaches available today – taught by the best in the industry.
