About the Speaker
Moorthy Uppaluri is the General Manager for Developer and Platform Evangelism (DPE) at Microsoft India based out of Hyderabad. In this role, he is responsible for spearheading Microsoft India’s efforts to foster the Indian software ecosystem through deep strategic engagements with developers, IT professionals, students, academia and software and services organizations.
Untill recently, Moorthy Uppaluri was the CEO of Microsoft IT-Global. Microsoft IT-India is the offshore arm of Microsoft IT-Global and a seamless extension of the Centres of Excellence (CoEs); comprising of strategic platforms and niche Microsoft technologies that the company deploys in developing mission-critical business applications for internal Microsoft use.
Moorthy is the Executive Sponsor for the Executive Briefing Centre, the one of its kind facility in Asia Pacific that bears witness to Microsoft’s commitment to this market and improving the customer and partner experience. At the EBC, partners and customers are brought together through seminars and presentations to demonstrate in detail how Microsoft IT deploys its own technologies to drive productivity and enterprise-wide solutions.
Prior to joining Microsoft Moorthy was the President & CEO of GE Infrastructure - India Technology Centre (GEI-ITC) and GE Fanuc Systems Pvt. Ltd. ITC is the home of Technology & IT experts contributing to the growth of the $5B global business. Prior to this, Moorthy became the first President and CEO of India Business Centre after GE acquired the IBC operations in 2001. He drove Growth, Innovation and Productivity while integrating the Technology and IT operations of C&I in India. He successfully integrated the operations of IBC and ensured that a passionate, energized and dynamic organization was built offering world-class services in the Technology & IT domains.
Prior to this assignment, Moorthy was the General Manager of the Upstream Operations for the Global Ultrasound modality which is an integral part of the Wipro-GE Medical Systems business in Bangalore. Before he moved to India in 2001, Moorthy was at GE Healthcare in Waukesha-Wisconsin, where he held several leadership positions across different functions.
Moorthy also worked with Taylor-Wharton Cryogenics and Illinois Superconductor Corporation in the US and Greaves Cotton & Company Ltd. and Voltas in India.
Moorthy has a Master’s degree in Industrial Management from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois and an MBA from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. He has a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Osmania University, Hyderabad. Moorthy is also a certified Master Black Belt who practices Six Sigma in day-to-day business. He is presently pursuing his Phd from the Hyderabad Central University.
He holds US patents in the fields of Cryogenics and High Temperature Super Conductivity. Moorthy is also a speaker/faculty for the Crotonville Leadership Development Programs. He is a visiting faculty at the Hyderabad University and an Executive Speaker at the Indian School of Business (ISB). At ISB Moorthy focuses on Corporate Governance and also leads the program to develop the ‘Industry Institute Interface’.
Throughout his career Moorthy has been a champion of Diversity. At Microsoft IT-India he is spearheading the Women in IT initiative and is also the Executive Sponsor of the Microsoft India Diversity Council. While at GE India he was the Executive Sponsor of the GE Women’s Network. Moorthy believes that Diversity adds immense value to an organization making it highly competitive, especially in an emerging market like India. A Mentor to many, Moorthy’s style of leadership focuses on bringing out the latent potential in people.
