Program Management of Knowledge Transitions
Shivram Ramasubramanian, Cognizant Technology Solutions
Introduction
Knowledge Transition (KT) can make or break a project. We refer to that phase of project when we start it, and when knowledge is acquired from either client or vendor, as Knowledge Transition. The success of knowledge transition lies in understanding and monitoring it quantitatively. Successful technology use (Web 2.0, video /audio etc) is also an important element. In this tutorial we will look at some of these elements and discuss about how to make Knowledge Transition effective.
Knowledge Transition (KT)
KT consists of 6 phases. The most critical of these 6 phases is Knowledge Acquisition. This is the phase in which resources get the desired knowledge of the application they will be supporting. The success of rest of phases is dependent upon effective Knowledge Acquisition.
Challenges in Knowledge Acquisition
We will discuss the challenges in Knowledge Acquisition and strategies to mitigate them. The strategies that will be discussed in detail are:
Strategy # 1: Knowledge Management: Building a searchable and reliable knowledge repository
Strategy # 2: Building people connect
Strategy # 3: Quantitatively measure progress: The Knowledge Transition scorecard
Strategy # 4: Transition Quality Audits: Auditing effectiveness of KT
Handling Risks during Accelerated Transition
We will also briefly discuss about risks in knowledge transition and how that above strategies helps us in overcoming the risks.
Effectiveness of KA and KT
We will summarize by talking about how to measure the effectiveness and the metrics that will be relevant here
