In today’s competitive scenario, the capability to estimate well is critical for software projects in order to win proposals, improve predictability in delivery, protect margins and above all prevent over burning of resources. The expectations are becoming increasingly demanding in terms of our ability to stick to the project commitments made and deliver on time. Moreover, the estimates need to be acceptable and convincing to the key stakeholders of a project. This becomes all the more complex as we execute wide variety of software projects that could be standard development, maintenance, production support, re-engineering, large outsourcing deal involving portfolio of applications, real time systems, data warehousing etc. and any one estimation technique does not fit all the estimation needs. Proper project planning and control is very difficult without a scientific and reliable estimate.

This workshop will focus on improving scientific estimation capability through multiple dimensions viz people, techniques / methods and systems / tools. The instructor will be sharing his practical experience of improving estimation capability, insight into commonly used estimation techniques, best practices on scientific estimation, effective reviews of estimates, development of estimation infrastructure including tools, development of estimation savvy teams and some very handy estimation tips. The session will also discuss the challenges, success measures and key factors that would be helpful in achieving the desired results. The learning will be through discussion on specific issues from participants, examples, case study, quizzes and Q&A sessions. |

Aman has over 14 years of experience primarily in the area of software development, project management, program management, quality system design, process consulting, change initiatives, training, audits and assessment. As part of his diverse portfolio, Aman currently heads quality function for one of the largest business units and Education & Research department at Infosys Technologies Limited. He is the founder member and the lead for Estimation Center of Excellence at Infosys. He is also the lead for organization wide initiatives on project management and program management capability enhancement. Aman has successfully steered large scale change initiatives, driven significant quality and productivity improvement strategies, managed large cross functional team, created knowledge clusters on specific areas and has brought in significant results for the organization. He has also demonstrated content leadership through development of new frameworks, models, techniques and certification programs (Estimation, Project management, program management) as Infosys IP. Aman has also been pivotal in process consulting for key clients in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand region to improve their IT effectiveness. He has successfully conducted many workshops on various topics across the globe for clients as well as for the internal teams (delivery, sales). He has won many accolades from various clients for his innovative and practical solutions. He is also the recipient of prestigious Infosys Excellence Award thrice consecutively since last three years for his achievements.
