Agile Project Management – MindTree Case Study

Agile methodology has gained in popularity over the last few years but the focus has mostly been on the non-project management aspects. In this tutorial, the focus is on covering the project management aspects of Agile in a simple and detailed manner so as to give the participants useful and valuable insights. A successful MindTree case study where Agile was used in a distributed environment and more than hundred on-time releases were made would be showcased for this purpose.

In this tutorial, you will be walked through the complete life-cycle covering all the critical phases and how you could use the learning to implement Agile in your projects. This tutorial will not focus on the generic Agile methodology but instead will dive deep in to the customized version of Agile that was used.

By the end of the tutorial, you will have:

• An overview of Agile project management processes and in what context Agile is a good fit
• Walk-through of a complete case study using the hybrid Agile model focusing on estimation, planning, monitoring and control, closure etc.
• Best practices, tips and tricks, pitfalls to avoid etc based on practical experience gained

Sandeep Agarwal

Sandeep has been in MindTree since June 2000, and has an overall 14 years of experience in IT Industry. He has been with Lucent Technologies prior to joining MindTree. In MindTree, he handled successful relationships with Cisco, Intel, Symantec. Along with Krishnan, he has been a founding member of PM Council at MindTree, and was part of the making of flagship workshops on Leading Performance and Leading Projects. Before taking up business roles recently, Sandeep successfully executed various projects for various clients both as a Project Manager and as an Account Manager. In one of the accounts he was responsible for taking a team of 5 to grow to 175 people account. He has extensively practiced Agile variations of Project Management as needed for some of the product clients. He has also created awareness on Agile, and spread around best practices which are now being used as a process in some of the large projects.

Krishnan KS

Krishnan has been in MindTree since 2000 and has over 12 years of experience in the IT industry. He has worked on different technologies and domains in IT Services over the course of his career. He has been involved in project management for the last 5 years and has been recognized for managing successful projects in MindTree. He was a founding member of the PM Council in MindTree which has contributed to building the project management competency in the organization. He has used Agile in different projects in MindTree and has contributed towards education and awareness about Agile in the organization and has assisted in usage and adoption of Agile in projects in MindTree. He was involved in the creation of customized Agile processes and templates for projects in MindTree.
